My kitchen was dark, and even though the window was small, its size was diminished further by being flanked so closely with the wood cabinets.
While the cabinets are a dated cherry, they are in fantastic condition and very functional. No idea what your budget is, but I think you could totally transform the look of this kitchen very inexpensively.
Would love any ideas on changing flooring, backsplash, countertops, lighting, ... Remove the 4" stone backsplash and existing tile backsplash and replace it with something lighter and less busy, add some interesting pulls to the cabinets and replace the ugly blinds with a nicer window treatment.

If you have upper cabinets suffocating it, as I did, think about possibly moving or removing them – at least those closest to the window.
IKEA sells premade countertops that range from to 0 for an 8 foot length.
A simple white would look awesome with the warm wood cabinets.
But the bigger impact was in planking the back of the peninsula with white planks (check out my tips for this here! If you don’t want to remove cabinets to tone down the wood, you could always paint just a select few.
Upper cabinets take a lot less abuse than base cabinets, and therefore a new paint job will last longer.
It's hard to see what the lighting situation really is but I would change out the island pendants and raise them to a more appropriate height for sure.
